About COHME:
New York's Non-Profit Home Care Agency
Since 1984, COHME has cared for New York families with a promise most
agencies can't make: a non-profit mission, a licensed social worker on every
case at no charge, and caregivers who stay for years, not months.

Four Decades of Care With a Conscience
COHME (Concerned Home Managers for the Elderly) is a non-profit home health care agency licensed by the New York State Department of Health. That license matters: not every home care service is licensed, and ours means stringent hiring, criminal background checks through the state registry, frequent audits, and 24/7 nursing supervision on every case.
But what makes COHME different isn't paperwork. It started in 1984, when a social worker named Lucy Rosengarten saw that home health aides weren't given the support they needed to provide truly good care ... and founded an agency out of her Upper East Side brownstone to change that. Her idea was simple: care for the caregivers, and they will care beautifully for your family.
Forty years and only three directors later, that is still exactly how COHME works.

Why NYC Families Trust COHME
A Social Worker on Every Case, Free

A licensed social worker meets your loved one first, makes the aide match, and stays your family's point person ... a service most agencies charge for, if they offer it at all.
Social Work & Care Management
Caregivers Who Stay

COHME retains 85% of its aides year over year, while many agencies lose most of theirs. We build a workplace worth staying for: real benefits, real support, real respect and your family feels the difference in every visit.
Our Staff
Training Beyond the Requirement

Every aide is a certified HHA, and the training doesn't stop there: annual dementia training, Parkinson's Foundation modules, fall prevention with physical therapy partners, and more
Our Training
Customized Matching

We match on personality, not just availability. Our director interviews every aide we hire, and a social worker meets every client before placement.

The People Behind the Mission
COHME is led by Laura Radensky, LCSW, a social worker with more than 30 years in home care, and governed by an engaged volunteer board that includes a geriatrician, an attorney, and a CPA.
